Meet the Midweek Mascot

Izzy here is the official mascot of the 1996 Olympic games.

Izzy, mascot of the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta--was the first mascot designed by computer [shocking...huh].

It was an amorphous abstract fantasy figure [clearly]. It carried the name Izzy, derived from "What is it?" because no one seemed to know exactly what Izzy really was.

--Okay, Sure. That makes sense. A mascot should evoke the response of "what is it, what is it doing." If there is something a mascot should do for or to an audience, it's cause confusion.

Atlanta could have saved some coin and just gone with an even more amorphous mascot...CLOUD.

Is Izzy here for the purpose of going on signs that show me to the bathroom or for raising the roof as Michael Johnson and his doping buddies take off for the relay?

Either way, thanks a bundle Izzy. We are all shocked that we have no recollection of your presence at the '96 games here in the US.
