Getting Started - 12/11/08

  • Jesse Jackson Jr., a.k.a. Candidate No. 5, denied any wrongdoing in Blagojevich's implosion. "I never sent a message or an emissary to the governor to make an offer or to propose a deal about the U.S. Senate seat." As if Jesse Sr. would ask permission. (MyWay News).
  • The House approved a $14B bailout of GM and Chrysler as Senate Republicans vowed to kill it, set themselves on fire, take their ball and go home. (San Francisco Chronicle).

  • The New York Yankees signed pitcher C.C. Sabathia to a 7 year $161M contract. For 87 C.C. Sabathias you can buy 2 car manufacturers. (Bloomberg).
  • Austrian actor Daniel Hoevels slit his throat when his prop knife turned out to be real. As Hoevals slumped over, blood pouring from his neck, the crowd rose to their feet in applause at the "special effect." Hoevals barely missed the cartoid artery and from the emergency room declared that the show must go on. He returned the next evening, and whoever is trying to kill him will probably succeed in short order. (Guardian).
