Pet Peeves

The English language is loaded with phrases ripe for just about any occasion. You could probably write an entire book littered with nothing but folky sayings that really say nothing other than, "I've got nothing original to say here, so take this gimmicky line that society uses as a placeholder for something with substance."

Exercising this slothful mentality is mostly harmless, but recently I've noticed more people mistating the original phrase. And the one I hate the most - "I could care less."

Think about it. If you could care less, then what is the point of telling me? The phrase has no real meaning until you reach the point where you couldn't care less. Only then has your well-spring of caring dried out.
